Mauney
James
"Jay" Mauney, Team Manager and Team Driver for The Motorsports Group, has been involved in
racing for more than twenty years. He crewed The 24
Hours LeMans in 2000 with MCR running a Porsche. Mauney was Team Manager with Orbit
for two Grand Am seasons, (2001 - 2002) where he was an acting team manager for
the Daytona Rolex 24 hour Grand-Am and the ALMS Sebring 12 hour event in 2001
also running Porsches.
He managed RTR Motorsports' racing and driver training programs from 2003 to 2005
guiding the team to more than 150 podium finishes in the three year period. In 2006
he was acting Crew Chief for a non sponsored privateer two car Grand-Am Rolex Daytona Prototype
Team running two Riley and Scotts where his team amassed 5 Trueman Awards in eight starts.
Mauney utilizes the years of experience he gained as a pro-level team
manager to bring an exceptional level of professionalism to all of TMG's
driver training and club level racing programs.
He also has a great deal of racing experience as a driver.
In 2003, his rookie year as a driver, Mauney had a string
of twenty-two straight podium finishes, seven pole positions, with eight overall
victories and twelve first in class finishes, collecting a total of 31 podiums
and only one DNF. In his first Professional series appearance Mauney took a top
ten finish in the highly competitive GT class of the Grand-Am Rolex Series at
Daytona International Speedway in an RTR stock motored race car. He also took
third over all and first in class in the Kumho Tropical 12 Hours at Homestead
Miami Speedway and won the SCCA Florida Region Endurance Series Championship
that same year.
In 2004 he set down multiple fastest race laps at Homestead and Moroso
Motorsports Park and won eleven pole positions. Mauney led the class points race
in PBOC Series and ranked in the top ten Nationally in the BMWCCA Series. He
again won the SCCA Florida Region Endurance Series Championship in 2004 taking
pole position in all but one event. With 18 entries he took away 16
podiums and 12 first in class finishes. His team dominated the South East
Region in SCCA’s FES and ECR series though out 2005 and he took the pole all but one
race throughout the season. Mauney again won for the second straight
season the
SCCA Florida Region Endurance Series Championship. Mauney was elected to
the SCCA Florida Region Board of Directors in early 2004.
The 2005 season Mauney won his third straight SCCA FES
Championship. With a total of 12 entries, Mauney took home 10 podium
finishes, again taking all but one pole position. His team also won the SCCA Kumho Tropical 12
hour at Homestead where he put the team's car on the pole. The team
then earn a first in class and first overall.
He also took 5th overall in PBOC Winterfest 6 hour Enduro at Sebring. Mauney
broke the SCCA class track records at Daytona, Sebring and Homestead during the
season.
During the 2006 season Mauney crewed and eventually stepped into
the Crew Chief position for a privateer program where he managed two Riley
and Scott Daytona Prototype Pontiac and BMW powered racecars in the prestigious
Grand American Rolex series. The season was a success with 5 of the teams
8 starts under Mauney guidance ending with a Trueman Award finish. With so much time
invested in the DP program Mauney's driving entries during 2006 were limited, but
included the PBOC Winterfest 6 hour with a 4th in class finish and the Kumho
Tropical 12 Hour where Mauney place the Orpan Racing Porsche on the pole.
During the 2007 season Mauney concentrated his efforts'
on the further development of TMG. He continued working
with the newly formed SCCA Kumho
Endurance Series Championship and remained on the Board of Directors for
the Florida Region SCCA. He is the editor and publisher of the Florida Region's Torque
Express and the editor of the clubs monthly printed newsletter. In 2007
Mauney was recognized at the SCCA National Convention for his efforts with the
Florida Region as they received the coveted Region Achievement Award. He will remain their publicity director for 2008.
The later half of 2007 he campaigned a single car entrant participating
in the Kumho Series and the Florida Region Endurance Series were the team
entered three events and took two 1st place finishes and one 2nd. In 2007
his team won the SCCA Southeast Divisional Championship in the DP class.
He continues
to hold a driving instructor rating with the SCCA and offers private instruction
and driver training programs. He has held driving instructor
ratings with Porsche Club of America, Porsche Owners Club, Porsche BMW Owners
Club, CHIN Motorsports, SAFE, NASA, Florida Region SCCA and Central Florida
Region SCCA and was the lead instructor for RTR's Level I and II programs. He
has held racing licenses with BMWCCA, NASA, PBOC, SCCA, Grand Am Cup, Grand Am Rolex
and earned an FIA license in 2003. He is currently licensed as a racer in BMWCCA, SCCA, Grand Am Rolex and
retains a FIA license. He also acts as a marketing consultant for with
Impact Marketing where he works with a variety
of South Florida businesses.
When at the track you will find Mauney working with each of the TMG crew members
in their designated area of expertise to pull together the best engine set up,
coaching plan, suspension set up and driver line ups to insure the continuity of
the unbelievable win streak he has managed over the last five years.
Beyond racing Mauney has been a professional
scuba instructor since 1989. In 1993 he gained international
recognition as he became one of the only 33 scuba instructors world wide
to earn the position as an Instructor Trainer for Professional
Association of Dive Instructors. He earned his US Coast Guard
Captain's license at the age of 20 and now
holds a 200 ton Master - All Oceans Ticket. He trained military
scuba divers for the United
States Government's Anti – Terrorist Team for the 1996 Olympics held in
Savanna Georgia.
In 2004 he sold his Palm Beach, Florida scuba operation,
which at the time, was ranked in the top 12 scuba centers in the world
and had earned a "Best in Florida" rating from Rondale's
Scuba Diving Magazine. He was also the private
scuba instructor for musician Jimmy Buffet's and NASCAR legend Kyle Petty's children. He is a private
airplane pilot, still enjoys boating,
holds a Class A CDL trucker's license and is a certified TIG welder. He is married to Varesha Mauney and
has two daughters, Aliana and Jenevieve.

John Jackson
John Jackson, Owner and Team Driver for The Motorsports Group,
has been involved in racing intensively for the last six years. He is the
Palm Beach County field supervisor managing a successful audio/video integration business.
He brings his years of managerial human resource and project management
experience to
TMG ensuring a high level of professionalism in all of TMG's endeavors.
Jackson just finished up an extremely successful season of racing that
started with a 2nd in P1 and 2nd overall finish in the SCCA New Years Night
Enduro at Moroso Motorsports Park in his 2.5 liter BMW which usually runs in
P2/ITR . He also won the D Prepared division at both the Sebring National
event in January and the Daytona National again in May. His weekend at
that event proved doubly successful as he and his co-driver TMG/Bayles Tuning
Team Driver James Bayles placed their ITR BMW on the pole for the scheduled 2
hour Enduro. Jackson again saw the podium as he and TMG Team Driver James
Jay Mauney took first in class in their ITA 2.7 liter E30 BMW in both the
Saturday and Sunday 1.5 Hour Enduros in June at Homestead. They finished
an unbelievable 6th and 5th overall during the event. Jackson teamed with
Mauney for the Moroso Night Enduro in July and again upset the field.
Forced to start at the back of a 30 car field due to a failed rental
transponder, TMG worked through the pack, with Mauney turning the second fastest
lap of the race, to finishing second in ITA and 7th overall. Jackson hold
the class track record a Daytona Internation Speedway in the SCCA DPrepared
class. Jackson was honored at the South East Division Awards banquet this year as has
outstanding season long performance earned him the SE Division Championship in D
Prepared.
Jackson holds racing licenses with the SCCA, NASA and BMWCCA and is a
certified SCCA instructor. Jackson will continue to offer private coaching
for TMG's level I - III programs. When at the track you will find Jackson
managing the mechanical staff and maintaining all the engine management and data
acquisition systems
on TMG racecars insuring the continuum of TMG's unbelievable winning streak.
Jackson will certainly be a threat in 2008 in both the ITA and D Prepared
divisions.
Beyond racing Jackson spent 15 years working throughout the United States and
Europe as a DJ and Producer. He parlayed that experience into a successful
career as a Night club designer working extensively with lighting and sound
reinforcement.
